LION TAMER

Apostle James: “My brethren, every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison! (3:7-9). Let’s pray this book makes us a lion tamer...!

ΕPILOGUE
1. Bloodless Martyrs
Saint Ephraim the Hagiorite lived an ascetic life in the remote area Katounakia on Mt. Athos for over fifty years. He has said the following from his ascetical experience:
“The first and foremost enemy of man is not the devil but man himself; his passions. Therefore, his big struggle is to defeat himself.
Martyrs therefore are not only those whose heads have been cut off because they refused to deny Jesus, but there are other types; they are bloodless martyrs.
They are unknown to the world but known only to the Lord. The martyrs bloodied for their faith were martyred once, while the other type martyrs every day.”(...) When we judge someone, we feel a certain kind of pleasure (if we would feel sorrow, we would not judge!). So, if we stop judging, it is like to stop feeling this pleasure! It is an unpleasant and undesirable condition for our passionate nature! (...).Things are even worse when we are being criticized or blamed. Instead of feeling pleasure, we feel pain. This pain makes us want to explode, so we can lessen the pain and to satisfy our passions. In so doing, we violate the command of the Lord that tells us “bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you” (Lk. 6:28).Thus, as Christians we must close our mouth and not say anything against our brother who judges and insults us. As a result, we increase the pain in our heart. (...).Paul said: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter” (Rom. 8:36).
Do we dare kneel in front of the Crucified Jesus and say to Him “For your sake we are killed all day long?” Do we?
