FORTY STORMY YEARS
Christ was to be born in “The Promised Land” (Canaan), from the descendants of Abraham, who had "moved" to Egypt. And now the Lord had to "send" them back, and He did.
Their forty year journey in the wilderness to Canaan is one of the most fascinating events to ever take place. It is truly a unique event unparalleled in world history. It surpasses all levels of human imagination, the reason being that God himself was the “author” of this “story”.
This divine story provides contemporary man with hope. Hopefully, you will find it interesting and enlightening.

INTRODUCTION
1. The “Prologue” of Israel’s History2. An Unprecedented Journey
(...) During their forty-year journey, the Israelites had to face a number of enemies such as the Amalhkites, Ammorites, etc. They fought against them and defeated them. Where did they find weapons though?
They fought with knives which they carried with them, stones, wooden rods and whatever else they could find. They were able to defeat their enemies without an arsenal of weapons which armies of the time had. In this manner, they captured the cities of Jericho, Ai, Gibeon etc. when they entered Palestine.
Furthermore, when they followed God’s commandments, they fought and were victorious, suffering no casualties! When the disregared God’s commandments, they lost and suffured casualties. For example, when they had approached Canaan in the Paran wilderness, some Israelites set off for Canaan without being told to do so. (Nu. 14:40). Moses warned them: “Why do you transgress the command of the Lord? For this will not succeed. Do not go up, lest you be defeated by your enemies, for the Lord is not among you” (Νu. 14:41-42). They refused to listen to him!
(...) After Moses died, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, the newly appointed leader of the Israelites (Jo. 1:8). “Τhis Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Jo. 1:8).
This was true during Moses’ leadership. It is true of every period in history and it is true today.
